Responsibilities
Lead and perform physical design of high-voltage substations (69 kV – 500 kV), including equipment layouts, grounding systems, bus design, and conduit/cable routing for transmission and distribution projects
Develop substation layout drawings, ground grid designs, bus layouts, conduit/cable schedules, and as-built packages using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Bentley Substation
Collaborate with protection & control (P&C) and civil/structural engineering teams to ensure design integrity and schedule adherence
Support relay/protection interface coordination and ensure all physical and P&C elements align with client requirements and industry standards
Conduct grounding analysis, design reviews, and quality checks to meet NESC, IEEE, and utility standards
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance for complex substation projects
Support proposals, cost estimates, and scoping for new substation projects
Collaborate with utility and EPC clients to deliver reliable, innovative substation designs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
8+ years of experience in substation physical design for utilities, EPCs, or consulting firms
Working knowledge of relay coordination, SCADA interfaces, and protection & control design principles
Strong technical background in transmission and distribution substation layouts, grounding, bus design, and equipment integration
Strong communication, project leadership, mentoring, and cross-discipline coordination skills
Experience with utility and EPC client standards
Preferred
Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and familiarity with substation design tools (e.g., Bentley Substation)
