Assistant Attorney General, Health Services
The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for Health Services to provide legal advice and representation to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. The role involves interpreting laws, representing the department in court, and assisting with federal institutional reform cases.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Provide advice and representation primarily to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and its Offices of Licensing, Developmental Disabilities, and Contracts and Procurement
Assist with representation of the Virginia Department of Health on hospital and nursing home licensing matters as needed
Interpret state and federal law and represent the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services in state and federal court, including cases alleging violation of federal or state laws with respect to conditions of confinement
Assist with representation of the Commonwealth in a federal institutional reform case transforming the system of services for individuals with developmental disabilities
Qualification
Required
Must be a member of the Virginia Bar
Possess excellent analytical, research, and writing ability
Demonstrate superior oral and written communication and litigation skills
Preferred
At least two years of litigation experience
Knowledge of Virginia's administrative process
Contract and procurement experience
