Tugboat Engineer

They are seeking a Tugboat Engineer to oversee the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems aboard the vessel, while ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities.

Construction

Responsibilities

Oversee the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems aboard the vessel
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, generators, pumps, and other onboard systems
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, engine logs, and fuel usage
Ensure all engineering operations comply with U.S. Coast Guard and environmental regulations
Monitor critical systems and respond promptly to mechanical or technical issues
Work closely with the Captain and crew to support safe vessel operations
Manage inventory and requisition parts, supplies, and tools as needed
Participate in safety drills and emergency response procedures

Required

Valid U.S. Coast Guard DDE 4000 HP license (minimum required)
Minimum 5 years of experience in a marine engineering role aboard tugboats or similar vessels
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and marine machinery
Familiarity with fuel systems, HVAC, steering, and bilge systems
Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures
TWIC card and current Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) required
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred

Experience working in the New York Harbor or similar high-traffic marine environments
Familiarity with EPA Tier-compliant engines and modern marine control systems
