Bridge Engineer Practice Lead

GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking an experienced Engineer 3 to lead their growing Bridge Engineering Group within their Ohio Transportation Business Unit. The role involves providing management and technical leadership to bridge projects, client interaction, and business development strategy for project opportunities.

Responsibilities

Design and prepare plans, calculations, and specifications for transportation structures, including highway bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and other miscellaneous structures per AASHTO and ODOT requirements
Provide analysis and load rating for existing structures and recommend improvement and strengthening strategies through knowledge and application of appropriate specifications, standards, and design criteria
Collaborate with other professionals from various departments and disciplines and discuss requirements with clients to execute projects
Perform work as part of a team or as a task/project manager, in accordance with the project budget and schedule limitations under moderate supervision
Prepare engineering cost estimates, the scope of work documents, and proposals and assist other Project/Task Managers with similar duties
Provide leadership and technical guidance to the project team to ensure quality technical services
Monitor and enforce compliance with quality control standards and client requirements
Participate in occasional site visits in construction sites and remote outdoor work environments
Occasional travel to client meetings and site visits with possible overnight stays
Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area
Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes
Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents
Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem
Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff. Predominantly plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work
Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments
Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects
Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters
Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments
Mentor direct reports and other engineers
Demonstrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering, including creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability
Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills, including interpretation of complex technical and contractual language
Considers the needs of diverse project stakeholders
Leads project meetings and represents the organization in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments
Analyzes and selects principles of formal communication, effective teamwork, and various pathways to developing leadership

Required

8+ years of experience in design and preparation of plans, calculations, and specifications for transportation structures, including highway bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and other miscellaneous structures per AASHTO and ODOT requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states
Driver's License
