Heavy Truck/Equipment Mechanic at Yellowstone Club

Discovery Land Company is the owner of Yellowstone Club, a private residential community in Big Sky, Montana. They are seeking a Heavy Truck/Equipment Mechanic who will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, modifying, and repairing light and heavy trucks and specialized equipment to ensure safe operating conditions for the entire fleet.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment malfunctions on all major systems including gas and diesel engines; brakes; drive; transmissions; differentials; drivelines; generators; rear-end assemblies; carburetors; tires and wheels; hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, GPS and cooling systems; and computer-controlled sanders and liquid de-icing systems
Diagnose equipment components for defects or malfunctions, utilizing a wide range of testing equipment
Work on vehicles and equipment such as 3.5-ton single axle and 10-ton tandem axle, tractor-trailers, bulldozers, front end loaders, excavators, motor graders, and small tractors
Diagnose, repair, rebuild, and overhaul systems and parts
Order and procure parts, supplies, and materials to keep equipment functional
Design and fabricate equipment such as mounting brackets, special tooling, and other small fabrication projects
Design and fabricate parts and special tools needed for unique or emergency situations by machining; arc welding and oxygen-acetylene cutting; plasma cutting; and MIG and ARC welding
Fabricate, modify, and install special equipment or replacement parts using welders, torch sets, plasma cutters, and metal cutting saws
Perform routine maintenance checks, inspections, and adjustments on such things as fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches; change filters and oil; and lubricate vehicles and motor-driven equipment
Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and equipment
Complete annual DOT safety inspections on the vehicle fleet
Perform record keeping and documentation on all assigned units, track equipment maintenance
Maintain technical knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials, and adapt to any changes, updates, and any technology improvements or changes
Instruct operators in the use and care of vehicles and equipment
Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition
Other duties as assigned

Required

Two years of progressively responsible experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair, which includes at least one year of experience with diagnosis and repair of heavy diesel equipment such as 10-ton double axle trucks, tractor-trailers, bulldozers, motor graders, excavators, wheel loaders and tractors
A current valid driver's license
Must pass a pre-employment screening
May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e., drug test)
Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular work hours and work overtime including weekends and holidays
Must provide the supervisor with a telephone number where you can be reached for the purposes of responding to an emergency
Mechanic is expected to have own tools and equipment needed to perform duties

Preferred

Five+ years of experience
Demonstrated success with the duties as listed in the description of the job section
Highest work/personal ethics and integrity
Extensive experience with troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of automotive and heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment, up to 10 tons is highly desirable
Extensive experience designing and fabricating parts and special tools needed for unique and emergency situations
Medium/Heavy truck ASE Certifications in Diesel Engine, Drive Trains, Brakes, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating, Ventilation, and A/C is preferred
Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Effective oral communication and customer service skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong reasoning, analytic thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Use of innovative approaches when performing repairs, with consideration for available resources, budget, time, efficiency, and safety

Conscientious, organized, and reliable in maintaining the shop and completing assigned duties
