Responsibilities
Supervises assigned shift custodial staff and performs custodial duties in a particular work area of the college with minimal supervision and responsible for the outcomes and losses of their efforts
Maintains college buildings, grounds, and equipment to insure cleanliness. Assists with snow removal of all college sidewalks and walking paths; this requires the operation of motorized equipment
Coordinates, schedules, and leads office moves and special event setups
Repairs, inspects, shampoos, replaces, and cleans contents and fixtures of the buildings, as assigned
Responds to emergencies and assists with emergency evacuations as assigned
Reports building deficiencies. Conducts minor plumbing repairs and general maintenance of deficiencies found
Provides excellent customer service to visitors, staff, and students
Acts as a custodial liaison between all shifts to address any unforeseen circumstances and facilitates the college’s resources to a successful conclusion. Communicates with the Director of Facilities to secure additional assistance, as needed
Interacts with the public safety office on the assigned shift to address any circumstances outside of routine operations and facilitates the college’s resources to a successful conclusion
Informs the assigned shift custodial staff of any specific tasks or projects assigned by the Director of Facilities and hosts shift meetings
Coordinates department operation; ensures the proper ordering of supplies for all supervised custodians on their shift. Assists with managing the custodial department budget and making recommendations for any new supplies or capital equipment
Conserves energy by turning off lights in unoccupied spaces
Performs other duties as assigned
Serves as a back-up to other staff members, as needed
Assists new employees and coordinates the activities of as needed and student workers
Serves as a member of the emergency response team
Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required
Serves on college committee for special events
Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes actions to ensure that the statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees and students; ensures that the College’s buildings and grounds are maintained in a safe condition; and provides careful supervision and protection of all of the College’s real and personal property
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent with ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions required
At least three years of commercial or institutional custodial experience required
Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation; ability to climb ladders and to move stage platforms and chairs, etc. required
Ability to pass a physical exam if offered the position
Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Proficiency in English required
Valid IL driver's license required
Possess Host machine certification, or willing to obtain
Possess NIMS certifications, or willing to obtain
