Commissioning Engineer - Controls
Praetorian Power Protection is the leader in NETA testing and staff augmentation to the mission critical industry, and they are seeking a Controls Commissioning Engineer to join their Reno based team. This role is responsible for coordinating the entire commissioning process across multiple trades, ensuring the technical authority for troubleshooting automation and control systems is maintained for critical facilities.

Responsibilities
Oversee Commissioning: Lead and coordinate all phases of the controls commissioning (Cx) process, from design reviews and submittal analysis to functional performance testing (FPT) and integrated systems testing (IST)
Systems Integration: Act as the primary point of contact for integrating complex building control systems delivered by various subcontractors, ensuring they communicate and operate as a single, cohesive system
Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex issues in automation, HVAC (BMS/BAS), electrical (EPMS), and security control systems, including hands-on analysis of PLC logic and SCADA interfaces
Vendor & Trade Coordination: Manage and direct multiple controls vendors and trades on-site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and quality standards
Risk Mitigation: Develop and execute commissioning test scripts designed to identify and mitigate risks to critical operations, ensuring all failure modes are tested and understood
Standards Compliance: Enforce contract compliance and adherence to project requirements and industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED, Uptime Institute)
Project Alignment: Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and owner representatives to align commissioning activities with project schedules, budgets, and the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR)
Documentation: Prepare comprehensive commissioning plans, reports, discrepancy logs, and final turnover documentation for the client
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent field experience)
5+ years of experience in controls, automation, or commissioning, with significant experience in mission-critical environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, industrial plants)
Strong technical understanding of control sequences for mechanical and electrical systems
Direct, hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), PLCs, and SCADA platforms
Proven ability to read and interpret design drawings, control schematics, and technical submittals
Preferred
Direct data center commissioning experience
Experience with specific control platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Electric, ALC)
Knowledge of critical power systems (UPS, generators, switchgear) and mechanical systems (chillers, CRAHs)
Professional certification (PE, BCA, or similar)
