Construction/Maintenance Worker II (Stormwater Engineering)

York County, Virginia is seeking a Construction/Maintenance Worker II in the Division of Stormwater Engineering. The role involves performing heavy manual work in maintaining drainage systems and supervising a small team in the absence of the supervisor.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Performs heavy manual work in the maintenance of County drainage ways and their associated structures
Responsible for serving as a lead worker in the absence of the supervisor; assigns and directs the activities of a small group of employees
Maintains drainage systems, and if silted in, re-constructs the drainage ways as needed
Observes and detects illicit discharges at outfalls as part of the County VSMP (Virginia Stormwater Management Permit)
Additional responsibilities include assisting with the collection of storm debris

Required

High school graduate or equivalent
Experience operating hand and power tools
Some supervisory experience
Ability to interpret and read maps and drawings of drainage easements
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record
Safety shoes required
Acceptable criminal background check
Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools including weed eaters, chain saws, industrial mowers, backpack blowers, power winches, pole saws, shovels, and rakes
Ability to lift between 50 and 100 pounds
Ability to operate and carry gas powered motorized equipment for the better part of a work day
Ability to walk, stand, stoop and bend on a daily basis
Ability to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions
Ability to be on the division's on-call rotation list

Preferred

Virginia Flagger certification
Experience applying pesticides
Experience using measuring instruments such as a hand-surveying level to determine grade level of ditches
