Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking a self-motivated Designer/Drafter who will primarily act as a CAD System Admin and secondarily as a design/drafter, responsible for supporting mechanical engineering projects through design and drafting tasks.

Responsibilities
Specifying computing systems based on individual user needs
Setting up new computer and hardware
Maintaining contracts for the CAD licenses
Installing software on individual workstations
Performing CAD system upgrades
Developing and maintaining standardized CAD libraries and templates
Performing design/drafting responsibilities to support the group projects
Assisting the CAD and PDM users resolving technical issues
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated intermediate level experience with three-dimensional Computer Aided Design such as SolidWorks or CREO and product data management (PDM) software
Demonstrated intermediate level understanding of modeling and drawing drafting principles, application of standards, symbols, notes, GD&T on drawings and models to capture design intent
Demonstrated intermediate understanding of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to a mechanical and electro-mechanical disciplines
Demonstrated intermediate understanding of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards for addressing fit, form and function
Demonstrated intermediate level use of drafting practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5, and the proven ability to incorporate Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts into working designs
Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with scientists, engineers, machinists, and fabrication personnel
Position requires an Associate's Degree in an Engineering or Technical field and 3 years of related experience, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Preferred
Demonstrated experience setting up new computer hardware, printers, scanners, plotters, etc
Demonstrated experience with installation, deployment, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting and updates of software
Experience providing technical support and assistance to end-users, resolving system and software issues. Must be able to interact with LANL IT personnel and CAD vendors to resolve issues
Experience specifying computing systems; knowledgeable choosing hardware requirements such as CPUs and GPUs
Experience performing data backups to prevent loss
Familiar with installing and configuring the SolidWorks CAD, PDM Professional, NX CAD and ANSYS Simulation Software
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain CAD standards, which can include templates, folder structures, file-naming conventions, and library components to ensure consistency across the organization
