Account Manager - Automotive

Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. is seeking a strategic and technically savvy Automotive Account Manager to join their high-performing Commercial team. This role is responsible for managing and expanding relationships with Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive customers, driving growth in plastics and chemical product lines, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients.

Responsibilities

Build and manage client relationships: Develop strong, consultative relationships with existing customers while actively identifying and onboarding new opportunities. Ensure client needs are understood and met with MCG’s suite of solutions
Drive sales growth: Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve revenue goals. Deliver compelling proposals and presentations, negotiate contracts, and close deals that drive long-term value for both the customer and MCG
Act as a technical resource: Collaborate with internal technical and engineering teams to align solutions with client requirements. Translate technical product features into practical business value for customers
Represent MCG in the market: Attend industry conferences, monitor market and competitor activity, and deliver insights to inform both customers and internal teams
Maintain accurate documentation: Use CRM tools (Salesforce preferred) to manage opportunities, track activity, and report progress. Ensure visibility and alignment with internal stakeholders

Required

A minimum of 10 years of experience in sales, business development, or technical roles within the automotive, plastics, or chemicals industry
Proven track record working with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers in the automotive sector
Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand product applications and translate them into client value
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA or MS) is a plus
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with comfort engaging senior executives
CRM proficiency (Salesforce preferred), plus strong skills in Microsoft Office tools
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, work independently, and manage a complex book of business
Willingness to travel extensively throughout Michigan, with occasional domestic and international travel as needed
