Responsibilities

Removal of Chlorofluorocarbons / Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (Freon) from various appliances received at the North and South Transfer Station facilities; (e.g., refrigerators, air conditions and humidifiers)
Employee moves and prepares equipment for recycling utilizing a forklift, hand truck, skid loader, or appliance dolly
Other tools utilized for refrigerant removal include a refrigerant recovery tool (line piercing tool), vacuum pump, refrigerant recovery pump, and weigh scales
Incumbent prepares CFC's for proper handling once removed and disposes of the appliances in an appropriate manner
Employee is responsible for record keeping and for maintaining and cleaning the refrigerant removal area
Incumbent is required to pick up and properly dispose of litter and/or recyclable materials collected by other groups; (e.g., bags of litter and recyclable material collected by litter collection crews, recyclable materials from county buildings and local businesses.)
Recyclable materials may include paper, cans and bottles or heavy items such as appliances or automotive batteries
Performs field checks on garbage containers at businesses
Talks to responsible parties about their waste hauler, how often the container is picked up and the size of the container
May also be required to pickup record boxes for shredding, pickup litter around the solid waste facilities, or assist with duties at McMRF or throughout the transfer facilities such as assisting customers, cleaning, moving items, stocking shelves, directing traffic or operating minor equipment and tools

Required

Equivalent to a high school diploma
Six (6) months experience in CFC removal
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Refrigeration Transition and Recovery Certification – Type I Technician
