Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs - Program Coordinator II - SCDPS Corporal (60023219)
NEOGOV is seeking a Program Coordinator II for the Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs within the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Responsibilities
Promotes and garners support for the state's School Resource Officer (SRO) Program among the law enforcement community and school districts
Conducts site monitoring/compliance related activities on an ongoing basis, discussing best practices for school safety during such visits with law enforcement personnel and school administration
Provides public protection and conducts enforcement activities as necessary during travel between SRO project locations and in the course of performing field duties
Serves as an added source of protection for students and force multiplier when onsite at schools
Performs other SRO Program duties when not in the field
Manages assigned state-funded SRO projects to include conducting on-site monitoring at schools and law enforcement agencies
Provides technical assistance to law enforcement agency heads, local project directors, and school district superintendents to ensure compliance with program requirements, policies, procedures, and regulations
Coordinates necessary project revisions and corrective action plans as necessary
Coordinates and oversees initiatives and efforts with the SRO Program
Participates in SRO related task forces and work groups
Promotes and markets the SRO Program to prospective participants with the goal of having and maintaining an SRO in every eligible school
Assists in managing the development, implementation, and execution of the SRO Program initiative
Assists in preparation of SRO application guidelines and effectively presenting the information in workshops with law enforcement agencies and related stakeholders
Conducts project management courses and meetings with stakeholders
Disseminates additional training and resources to program participants as necessary
Reviews SRO Program applications in accordance with regulations and policy directives
Assists in the preparation of summaries, recommendations, and other documents for submission to the South Carolina Public Safety Coordinating Council
Performs additional law enforcement duties during times of critical incidents, whether natural or man-made crisis events requiring sworn personnel response
Assists the South Carolina Highway Patrol with emergencies and other special events as required
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience
A bachelor's degree or an acceptable equivalent in job experience approved by the State Office of Human Resources
Must have an active certification as a Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) by the Law Enforcement Training Council (LETC) in accordance with Section 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976 with a minimum of five (5) years as a South Carolina Class 1 LEO
A Class 1 LEO who retired under the South Carolina Police Officers Retirement System (PORS) and can successfully be recertified as a Class 1 LEO under the PORS Return to Work Provisos within 90 days of hiring (or other reasonable time period determined by the department based on existing conditions and meets the active certification requirement)
Must have an excellent knowledge of and ability to soundly interpret South Carolina laws, regulations, and policies
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local law enforcement agencies, School Resource Officers, school districts, and other stakeholders
Must have the ability to speak effectively in a public setting
Good communication skills, both written and oral, are essential
Must have the ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office software, and audio-visual equipment
Employee must be a self-motivated individual and be able to work independently with minimum supervision
Technical law enforcement and administrative competence is expected on a daily basis
Must maintain a high level of confidentiality as it relates to sensitive issues regarding SRO placement, site visits, audits, monitoring, reviews, and outcomes of the compliance process
Frequent in-state and occasional overnight travel will be required
Out-of-state travel will require the use of airlines and may require extended stays to attend meetings or training conferences
This position is required to work with other law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions and perform law enforcement duties during critical incidents, which may include nights and weekends
Preferred
Experience as a School Resource Officer is desirable, but not required
