Responsibilities

Support the Director of K-12 in conducting independent research on new or existing legislation, regulations, and policies
Taking a leading role in drafting and vetting federal policy recommendations
Taking a leading role in drafting and editing reports, policy briefs, blog posts, fact sheets, and op-eds
Leading conversations with education stakeholders, experts, consultants, and project principals
Supporting outreach and communications activities, including briefings for policymakers
Working with program directors and the development department to draft grant proposals and grant reports, and support other donor management needs
Planning and executing project meetings and private roundtable discussions
Overseeing specific policy workstreams including developing work plans, managing key principals, proactively conducting expert and stakeholder outreach, and developing written materials
Overseeing the work of junior staff and/or project interns on select projects
Tracking project outcomes and successes for impact statements and project reports
Other duties as assigned

Required

Minimum of 3 years of work experience in education policy or research
Experience conducting policy research, including quantitative and qualitative approaches
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and speech
Effective interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and within a team, multi-task, think creatively, express ideas in a non-partisan fashion, and work well in a bipartisan organization
Demonstrated success organizing and managing projects, meeting deadlines
Demonstrated ability to develop ideas and execute them
Experience working with executive and/or legislative branches or a demonstrated understanding of congressional or agency operations
