6 Month Equine Rotating Internship - 2026
NVA Equine is offering a 6-month rotating internship focused on reproduction at the South Shore Equine Clinic. The internship aims to prepare graduates of accredited veterinary schools to become qualified associates with skills in reproduction, foal care, and diagnostics while working closely with experienced clinicians.

Responsibilities
Concentration on in-hospital and reproduction – estrus synchronization, artificial insemination, pregnancy confirmations, foaling on site, foal visits at farms
In hospital cases include haul-in appointments 3 days per week, emergency cases at any time or day of the week, and discharges daily as necessary
Haul-in cases include performance horse evaluations - H/J, 3-day eventing and dressage show horse, Standardbred racehorses, and western pleasure with an emphasis on diagnostics and therapeutic options
Lameness workups, imaging (DR radiography, Ultrasound, MRI), shockwave, Tenex procedures, PRP, IRAP, Arthramid, and conventional intra-articular care
Internal medicine caseload includes referrals as well as ophthalmic and medical colic cases; and other haul-ins include preventative care and dentistry
General ambulatory/emergencies seen as needed
Types of cases: 50% Reproductive and foaling, 30% Internal medicine/general practice, 15% preventative care/general practice (ambulatory), 5% emergency (no colic surgery)
Estimated breakdown of workload: Hospital based 4 days per week and one day of ambulatory. Saturdays will be hospital based to assist with haul-ins, reproductive cases, and emergencies as they occur
Emergency duty requirements: Shared foaling duty and mare scanning rotation with other interns including nights and weekends, typically with a back-up clinician
Typically off two nights per week and one weekend per month
Work towards becoming an ambulatory associate comfortable treating all types of cases: Podiatry and laminitis, Dentistry (Floating and extractions), Ophthalmology (ulcers, uveitis, SCC, Subpalpebral lavage systems), Cellulitis, Metabolic and Cushing’s Disease, Colic (emergency and chronic care), Reproduction management (estrus synchronization and artificial insemination), Lacerations and Field Surgery (castrations, enucleations, tumor removals), Skin disease (Melanoma, SCC, hives, immune mediated), Lameness and Sports medicine, Senior and Geriatric care, Ultrasonography (limbs, thorax, abdomen, eyes, guided injections), Digital Radiographs (limbs, skulls, necks, backs), Acupuncture and Chiropractic (VSMT) care, All aspects of Preventative Care
Become acquainted with the local ice cream shoppes once they open in the spring
Enjoy the local culture (seasonal festivals, historical traditions, taverns, and pubs)
Enjoy all that Boston and New England have to offer: History, Sports, Beaches and oceans, Walking and Hiking trails, Skiing
On call split with other intern (s) and associates; always with a back-up clinician
Qualification
Required
Graduate from AVMA accredited school
Passed NAVLE
Eligible for a Massachusetts veterinary license
Valid driver's license
Preferred
Foreign graduates enrolled in the ECFVG program
