Structural Engineer, Crane and Hoist

Responsibilities
Ensure all projects are designed and manufactured to support all required standards and codes to ensure safety and compliance at all times
Ensure all detailing and drafting is performed in accordance with ANSI requirements for the presentation of information in accordance with national and state requirements
Serve as a Technical & Structural Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CC&H, including:
All bridge crane technical specification management: this will include making decisions for/with team members on load and capacity requirements, calculations, and process related questions that will ensure safety, quality, and performance of all structural steel members and connection methods. This role ensures all forces are understood, calculated, and appropriately accounted for in the design, fabrication, and installation of bridge cranes and other hoisting equipment. These forces must be captured correctly, interpreted fully, and their effect on columns, runway structures and concrete must be interpreted correctly
All forces must be interpreted in accordance with CMAA and ASME requirements
All steel members must be designed and appropriated sized to handle the loading and forces created by the equipment
All connections (welding, bolting, etc.) must be sized correctly and documented in accordance with AWS and ANSI requirements to be executed by service teams
Ensure that all Critical to Quality (CTQs) are fully and clearly documented throughout the life cycle of every project in alignment with CIS Quality Management Procedures
Respond to shop, installation, or project team inquiries and process plan changes to overcome challenges
Project scopes and requirements can vary depending on customer needs and this role will need to possess a wide range of hands-on technical experience around all aspects of engineering, design, vendor management, service, manufacturability, integration, testing, installation, and post-installation support. Working with the Project Management and service team to understand all situations to the project scope and requirements is an essential component of this role
As a dynamic growth-focused Operating Company, our Structural Engineer is called upon to assist all aspects of development projects, guided by ASD. Examples may include:
Collaborate with Sales to define customer needs and technical requirements
Support Work breakdown structure (WBS) development, risk management, and project estimation
Create installation diagrams, shop details, and other project planning documents
Develop 2D/3D CAD files in required customer formats and for incorporation into other system documentation and visualization tools (AutoCAD preferred)
Design, identify, and fabricate metal framing, panels, enclosures, and related support systems and other HW components as needed
Develop manuals, installation standards, or other project documentation
Support risk management planning and test plan development
Collaborate with Sales to understand the Value Creation process and how best to maximize the Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy for each project
Partner with Sales, Customers, and Service Operations to develop customer requirements accurately and intentionally, often starting from concept development
Lead and collaborate with core team to document and interpret Voice of the Customer (VOC) information and to translate into Technical Requirements
Support CIS Field Support Escalation process as assigned and required; troubleshooting may be billable and done in partnership with local branch teams and Service Technicians
Maintain a valid driver’s license and operate vehicles safely
Ensure compliance with all CIS Safety, Employee Handbook, or Quality Control Standards, including any applicable codes, standards, or other related requirements applicable to project design
Ensure Safety, Reliability, and Customer requirements are met, all projects, every time; ensure objective traceability throughout the project life cycle with customer alignment
Ensure all engineering and technical standards and requirements are defined, understood, and achieved throughout all projects based on applications, codes, and project needs (i.e., CMAA Design standards, AISC design tables, ASME design requirements), UL or other safety organizations. Any other codes or standards based on application or project requirements
Serve as a leader for C10 through all actions, in all situations, every day
Ensure compliance with CIS proprietary Accelerated System Development (ASD) milestone-based project development process to manage all project requirements
Proactively identify project risks and implement countermeasures to balance project and business needs
Define, document, and achieve customer requirements on every project
Time is of the essence; ensure on-time execution of all deliverables to support schedules
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Consider commercial and financial impacts of decisions and communicate technical and financial impacts effectively
Ensure all project information and activities are organized, professional, and presented logically and efficiently; able to navigate sensitive situations with customers, on-the-fly
Demonstrate a positive attitude and a commitment to execution and change management
Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Anticipate challenges and address them proactively; ensure all action plans follow the SMART structure
Provide subject matter expertise, both for planning and technical execution
Support all administrative activities needed
Engage customers directly through sales, service, and support activities
Manage vendors and third-party partners as needed
Stay up to speed on developments in technology that may be relevant in our industry
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering with at least 5-7 years of related, hands-on design and drafting experience
Active and current PE licensure is required, SE licensure preferred
Experience within regulated industries that involve structural steel design, fabrication, and installation for dynamic equipment and solutions
Able to recognize and plan for specific safety hazards related to specific jobs and tasks
Mid-to-high-level proficiency with CAD applications for 2D and 3D drafting, design, and modeling (AutoCAD, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
Proficient in using electrical and mechanical design software to create and assess engineering drawings
Strong proficiency with digital administrative tools (MS Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, ERP systems, CRM systems)
Experience with service work order fulfillment and supporting processes is highly desirable
Communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual meetings
Work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Demonstrate strong interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills
Exhibit high attention to detail, organization, and technical accuracy
Remain adaptable and solutions-focused in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Exhibit initiative, dependability, and consistent follow-through in meeting deadlines
