Bindery Assistant - 3rd Shift

Responsibilities

Learn to interpret the information on the work order and its contents
Follow daily running order provided by Scheduling Team
Feed books/signatures into machine
Pack books into cartons
Safely move materials/books to and from workstation
Perform hand operations as required
Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling Team as needed
Maintain high throughput by performing quick and efficient make-readies and job changeovers
Inspect for quality defects ensuring quality standards are achieved
Be sure all waste is disposed of properly
Perform preventative maintenance, general cleaning and upkeep of machine and auxiliary equipment
Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity
Keep area safe and clean
Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift
Assist training new operators and employees
Other duties as assigned

Qualification

Required

High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience
Ability to read and comprehend instructions
Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, workplace, and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Basic math skills, add subtract, and ability to use a measuring device
Basic problem-solving skills
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently, 20lbs constantly
Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 lbs. in all directions
Constantly be able to work in the work activities including moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another, communicating with others to exchange information, operating machine and/or power tools, and working in noisy environments

Preferred

One year manufacturing experience
Ability to work with the following software packages or programs: Microsoft Office, Flex and PrintStream at beginning level
Effective email and electronic communication skills are preferred
Ability to work with the following tools or machinery: Pallet mover, Paper Turning Disc, Knives: razor, hand, slab-off skives, Pallet wrap holder, Vacuum lift, Plate bender, Plate carts, Hand tools, Grease guns/ air hose nozzles, Shaft handling cart
