Billing and Coding Specialist
The Guidance Center (TGC) is a Community Mental Health Center dedicated to providing high-quality care to individuals in need. They are currently seeking a Billing and Coding Specialist responsible for managing billing code development, submitting claims, and following up on outstanding accounts. This role involves a variety of tasks including payment posting, account reconciliation, and collaboration with other staff to ensure an efficient revenue cycle.

Responsibilities
Responsible for reviewing commercial payer, Medicaid, and other assigned guarantor accounts for outstanding balances. Re-bill unpaid charges with the most expedient method. Keep the supervisor informed of any concerns with specific aged accounts
Post client, insurance, and Medicaid payments to EHR as assigned
Run appropriate EHR reports to ensure accounts balance and enter balancing information on monthly spreadsheets
Complete reconciliation log entry, bank deposit, and EHR report
Post payments, ensuring charges are at correct liabilities, enter adjustments for over or under payments as needed. Confirm co-pay amounts and update EHR when necessary
Recycle denials, when possible, report ineligibles or other insurance to appropriate office
Update the person seeking services’ financial eligibility in the EHR when needed
Re-bill any corrections or changes that can be made for reprocessing
Transfer charges to other liabilities when necessary
Notify Front Desk Staff, Clinician, and Accounting/Billing staff when provider person seeking services/plan issues exist
Process electronic, HCFA 1500 claim forms, and paper billing for services within required timeframes
Collaborate with other billing staff, clinicians, and administrative staff to ensure a smooth revenue cycle for provided services
Keep informed of ongoing coding guidelines from official sources (AMA, CMS, MCO) as well as specific payer policies and procedures
Collaborate with the IT team and Billing Manager to implement new billing codes or update current codes in the EHR
Ensure appropriate use of CPT codes and modifiers in coordination with the Quality department
Understand productivity and efficiency goals established by TGC for the position and work towards the achievement of such
Adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional attitude
Qualification
Required
High school diploma of GED
Certification of Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the AAPC
A minimum of one year's experience in billing and coding
Preferred
Associate's degree in medical Billing and Coding, Health Information Technology, or related field
Certified as a CPC+CPB from the AAPC
Experience with billing or coding at Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBCH) or Community Mental Health Center (CMHC)
Experience with Netsmart E.H.R. products (My Avatar and/or Avatar NX)
