Laboratory Technical Assistant | Full Time
Hillsdale Hospital is dedicated to excellence in healthcare community service and seeks a Laboratory Technical Assistant. The role involves following laboratory procedures, assisting with patient registration, and supporting laboratory technologists in their tasks, all while maintaining a professional and efficient environment.

Responsibilities
Correctly follows laboratory procedures for identifying the patient and labeling specimens accurately and completely
Registers patients. Collects and verifies patient, guarantor, and insurance information. Accurately and completely places orders in the LIS
Orders supplies as needed and notifies appropriate individual when supplies are low. Distributes supplies to the appropriate areas
Greets patients and family in a friendly manner. Answers phone promptly, professionally, identifies department, name and asks, “how may I help you?”
Follows instructions and completes all assigned tasks when needed
Assists Laboratory Technologists / Technicians with screening / triaging calls and providing accurate and timely lab results to physicians and patients
Use appropriate techniques and procedures to obtain blood samples by venipuncture and skin puncture. Instruct patients on proper collection procedures for urine collection, stool collection, and other miscellaneous collections
Correctly prepares and processes samples for testing including receiving, verifying, packaging, and sending to other labs via courier
Responds immediately and appropriately to emergency situations. Able to be flexible and rotate when necessary
Recognizes job relationships and functions effectively within the organizational structure
Maintains favorable attendance. Reports absences in accordance with the Employee Handbook in the manner prescribed by the Department Manager
Maintains professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, and other means to keep abreast of latest trends in the laboratory field
Completes mandatory education on a timely basis
Perform other duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent required from an accredited institution
Completion of at least one year (2 semesters) of college science courses OR one year of experience in a clinical laboratory
Recent completion of a course in medical terminology or completion within 60 days of hire
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology
Ability to read, follow directions, and perform procedures associated with specimen collection, handling and processing
Ability to recognize problems and take corrective action
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in person, via telephone and via email
Ability to work well under pressure and handle crisis situations
Ability to function as part of a team dedicated to patient care
Good computer skills including Microsoft Office products, and preferably experience with Evident and Lifepoint
Preferred
ASCP certification desirable
