Responsibilities
Define, design, and implement Java backend architecture for large-scale, distributed enterprise applications
Lead API strategy and integration design with multiple third-party platforms and internal systems
Architect and optimize database models, schemas, and query performance for both SQL and NoSQL environments
Ensure alignment of architecture decisions with business and technical objectives, scalability, and performance goals
Define standards for RESTful API design, endpoint security, data access patterns, and error handling
Provide architectural guidance to development teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and design principles
Review code, conduct design reviews, and mentor developers to ensure high-quality deliverables
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (DevOps, QA, Security, Product Management) to ensure seamless solution delivery
Drive the adoption of modern frameworks, libraries, and tools to improve code efficiency and maintainability
Design and implement secure REST APIs for internal and external integrations, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
Manage authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT, SAML) and ensure endpoint protection
Integrate external APIs and third-party services (payments, analytics, identity, etc.) with robust error handling and monitoring
Partner with InfoSec teams to address application security, vulnerability management, and data protection
Lead performance optimization efforts for backend systems, focusing on latency, throughput, and scalability
Establish observability, monitoring, and logging practices for all backend services
Define standards for high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and load balancing across application tiers
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in Java backend development, including 5+ years in architecture and solution design
Deep expertise in Java 8+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and microservices architecture
Strong hands-on experience with REST API design, integration frameworks, and 3rd party API consumption
Solid understanding of database design principles, SQL performance tuning, and ORM tools (Hibernate/JPA)
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
Strong knowledge of API security protocols – OAuth2, JWT, SAML, and SSL/TLS
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven/Gradle, and API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI)
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
Preferred
Experience with API Gateway solutions (Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway)
Exposure to event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and secure software development lifecycle
Prior experience in financial services, retail, or enterprise digital transformation domains
