Research Associate III (Microbiology and Immunology - Galveston)

Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates and directs moderately complex research experiments following general technical procedures
Establishes and oversees quality control measures for assigned project operations
Makes modification to research procedures as determined by Principal Investigator
Contributes to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects
Maintains records of all tests performed and data collected, compiles and tabulates data, provides analysis of results
Confers with lab staff regarding results obtained and receives suggestions for modification to procedures and interpretation of final data
Ensures the accurate assembly, calibration, operation and modification of a variety of laboratory equipment as defined by appropriate guidelines
Makes minor modifications and repairs to equipment as necessary
Independently performs literature searches as outlined by the Principal Investigator
Oversees lab inventory of supplies and equipment
May provide guidance to junior research staff
Adheres to internal controls established for department
Performs related duties as required

Required

Bachelor's degree in basic science or equivalent and 5 years of related experience or Master's degree in basic science or equivalent and 3 years of related experience required

Preferred

More than two years of experience maintaining mammalian cell cultures is highly preferred
More than two years of experience performing plaque assays, virus neutralization assays, and ELISAs is highly preferred
More than two years of experience working with viruses in BSL-3 or BSL-4 is preferred
The ideal candidate would have a DOJ clearance and more than two years of BSL-3 or BSL-4 experience working with cell cultures, viruses, and laboratory animals
Proficient in molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, serological assays, flow cytometry)
