Psychology Program Manager - Associate Chief of Mental Health for Training

Responsibilities
Will serve as the Associate Chief of Mental Health for Program Development and Education
Adheres to operational policies and procedures established by the Office of Mental Health, VHA, CVAHCS, and the ACOS MH
Helps coordinate the recruitment and selection of staff associated with clinical programs, professional oversight roles, and training directors throughout the Service Line
Coordinates the recruitment, selection and direct supervision of interdisciplinary interns and fellow associated with clinical training programs, professional oversight roles, and training directors throughout the Service Line
Develops and oversees continuing education credits program to support MH staff in earning CEU's through training at VA. Chairs the Mental Health Continuing Education Committee
Engages in the disciplinary process for staff who exhibit poor conduct and/or are less than fully successful with achieving established performance standards
Approves leave for all staff associated with programs under his/her responsibility to ensure continuity of care and uninterrupted provision of services
Establishes and maintains a recovery-oriented approach to care within and among all programs; to include facilitation with program development and communication among program providers to support comprehensive, individualized, and continuity of care
The incumbent will research, assemble, and compile data, evaluate the results against appropriate standards and recommend corrective action where indicated to the ACOS MHSL, Operations Manager, and/or designee
Complies with national and local performance measures and standards, including those that support new and established patient access
Assists the ACOS MH in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs to meet care needs for referred Veterans
May serve as Control Point approving official
Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances, and more serious unsolved complaints to ACOS MH
Manages and directs the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives, and ability to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, staffing, and budget requirements, etc
Analyzes organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in sound operation of the program
Oversees efforts by the mental health discipline executives to support the professional leadership programming for psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, LPMHC, LMFT, and peer specialists
Oversees the development of all training programs within the service line, including medical students, practicum students, interns, fellows, and residents
Meets on a regular basis to support the professional development of the discipline executives and the training directors
Provides mentoring to other select mental health staff for whom mentoring would help them transition successfully into a new position or to a new role
Responsible for the accreditation/reaccreditation of the training programs
Oversees the development of all training programs within the service line, including medical students, practicum students, interns, fellows and residents
Provides crisis intervention when indicated including evaluation, assessment, triage, initiation of/support in Emergency Detention procedures within scope of licensure, and disposition of patients experiencing behavioral health emergencies
Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the ACOS MHSL (or designee) and any other mandatory meetings, regularly, as directed by the ACOS MHSL
Performs other related duties as assigned

Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed
Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
At least three years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-13 grade level
Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks, and meet multiple deadlines
Knowledge of and ability to utilize evidence based practices and clinical practice guidelines appropriately and ability to guide staff in using these tools
Skill in managing and directing the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives
Ability to translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled work operations
Ability to establish and monitor production and performance priorities and standards
Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in sound operation of the program
