Responsibilities

Complete the design and assembly of pilot systems and prototypes, translating conceptual ideas into functional equipment for testing and research

Assist with realistic project schedules and budgets

Assist project manager for design, construction, and installation phases of pilot or prototype development

Size, select, and purchase equipment and materials for pilots and prototypes

Coordinate with 3rd party vendors and subcontractors

Interpret process, electrical, and instrument diagrams

Develop and document operational procedures to guide research engineers in utilizing testing equipment

Assist client or internal operations teams in the field occasionally

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment such as pumps, heaters, industrial instrumentation, and control systems

Ensure safe operation of prototypes and pilot equipment

Take ownership of testing campaigns from planning through execution and analysis to optimize prototype performance and assure data accuracy

Troubleshoot problems occurring with pilots and prototypes and work with the Research Engineering team to address unexpected results

Prepare technical documentation and communication, including test results

Assist in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Evaluate projects for operational and safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks

Advise management on performance risks

Maintain good housekeeping practices and manage inventory of tools, equipment, and consumables
