Responsibilities
Provide high-level creative direction on the agency’s most strategic and high-profile accounts
Champion bold, innovative thinking that is deeply aligned with client missions and performance goals
Lead creative strategy and storytelling during new business pitches and major presentations
Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and all agency team members on creative direction
Encourage and guide creative experimentation that leads to tangible business impact, new service offerings, and measurable improvements in client results
Oversee the Creative (Design) and Content teams, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and integration
Lead, inspire, and mentor a diverse team of creative professionals, ensuring they thrive and grow in their craft
Partner with team leads to set clear goals, performance standards, and career development pathways
Anticipate evolving creative skill needs and partner with leadership to plan hiring, training, and team growth accordingly
Model and reinforce a respectful, inclusive, and accountable culture across teams; proactively address cultural challenges and celebrate contributions
Define and evolve our creative service offerings to meet the changing needs of the nonprofit sector and stay ahead of industry trends
Develop and optimize creative processes and workflows to ensure operational excellence, quality, and efficiency
Implement performance-focused creative strategies that drive measurable impact for our clients
Collaborate closely with Account Leads and other Service Leads (Brand Strategy, Campaign Strategy, Media, Fundraising, Data, etc.) to ensure seamless integration across disciplines
Partner with business development to shape new offerings, support strategic growth initiatives, and new business pitches
Ensure creative excellence and consistency across all client touchpoints
Ensure consistent adoption of agency-wide processes, such as communication protocols, time tracking, and project management systems; lead improvements that enhance clarity, efficiency, and accountability
Balance client needs, team capacity, and financial realities to ensure the creative function operates sustainably and efficiently
Partner with senior leadership to drive creative-led business growth, including scoping, pricing, and identifying opportunities to expand client relationships and agency impact
Lead the integration of emerging creative and cultural trends across client portfolios, ensuring our strategies remain insight-driven, relevant, and future-focused
Qualification
Required
10+ years of creative leadership experience, ideally within an agency environment
Demonstrated expertise in leading multidisciplinary creative teams (design, content) and managing senior creative talent
Strong track record of developing and selling high-level creative concepts, particularly in new business contexts
Deep understanding of nonprofit marketing and communications—nonprofit sector experience is required
Proven ability to balance creativity with performance, delivering work that inspires audiences and achieves measurable results
Exceptional communication, presentation, and leadership skills
Strategic mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for social impact
Solid portfolio of work across a variety of digital platforms
Check your ego at the door: you're a team player, ready to jump into any request, and eager to support the agency in any way possible
Collaborative, curious, and a genuinely good human
More than comfortable communicating and collaborating with copywriters, designers, developers, and your account team partners in a way that elevates everyone's work and builds confidence across the team
Able to objectively tell a good idea from a great one, even (and especially) when it's not your own
Able to thoughtfully design and craft the story for client and agency presentation decks, taking content and flow into account as much as the visual aesthetic
Comfortable presenting your work to clients, not only talking through the visual execution but also the strategy, insight, and approach behind it
Proactively seek out new perspectives, ideas, and opportunities to bring to the creative team and the agency as a whole, to continually expand our work and thinking
Excel at juggling multiple projects and deadlines, but also know your own pace and capacity and aren't afraid to speak up if/when you need help
Willing to get crafty and understand that, regardless of budget (nonprofits don't always have a lot), it's our job to figure out how to do great work
Genuinely driven by a passion to make a difference, not just make money, although we're here to help you do both
