Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) Senior Mechanical Engineer (NASA LTVS Award Contingent)

Axiom Space is collaborating with Astrolab, Inc. to develop a Lunar Terrain Vehicle for future Artemis missions. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for the Lunar Terrain Vehicle program, ensuring compliance with project specifications and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Leading the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications
Ensuring designs satisfy requirements and demonstrate performance in a thorough verification and validation program
Planning and performing testing of components and integrated assemblies
Overseeing the integration of mechanical systems into larger projects, ensuring system functionality, reliability, and safety
Coordinating with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, and electrical engineering to ensure cohesive system design
Conducting detailed analysis and simulation of physical systems to predict performance and identify potential issues
Driving innovation in mechanical system design, exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance product capabilities
Managing project timelines, resources, and deliverables related to mechanical engineering tasks
Preparing and presenting technical reports, design documentation, and project updates to stakeholders
Performing additional job duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's or master's degree in STEM from an accredited institution
5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field
Familiarity with implementation of NASA Standards, Federal Standards, and/or DOD Standards
Experience developing spaceflight hardware structures and mechanisms including the following materials: metallic, non-metallic, composite

May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)

Preferred

Experience in Extravehicular Activities (EVA) and Extravehicular Robotics (EVR) operations and hardware is desired
Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills using 3D modeling and simulation tools; i.e. SolidWorks preferred
