Engineer in Charge - Environmental Engineer II

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers. The Engineer in Charge will manage the response to remediation requests for failures in the City water and sewer systems, overseeing emergency construction contracts and a team of engineers for timely repairs.

Responsibilities

Manage the response to request for remediation of failures in the City water and sewer systems through the use of emergency construction contracts
Oversee the procurement of contracts for the emergency repair of water mains and sewers in the 5 boroughs
Manage a group of engineers assigned to oversee the work on the repair of sewers and water mains
Represent the unit and agency in connection with the water and sewer repair construction contracts
Oversee contract budget and manage the influx of work orders for sewer and water main break repairs
Manage the generation, updating, transmission and storage of all information generated under the contracts
Monitor the work to ensure timely completion

Required

A valid New York State Professional Engineer License
Four years of full-time experience in environmental engineering
A master's degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in environmental engineering
At least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in engineering
Minimum of 10 years of construction related experience preferably with infrastructure such as water mains and sewers
3 years of which were in a supervisory capacity overseeing contracts and subordinates
A good work ethic and willing to be vocal with contractors to make sure specifications are being followed
