Director, Consumer Underwriting

The Director, Consumer Underwriting is responsible for directing the consumer loan department, executing risk-based assurance reviews, and contributing to the review of the credit union’s credit policy.

Responsibilities

Oversees the research, development, communication, and implementation of consumer lending policies
Analyzes lending data to identify risks, trends, and areas for improvement
Ensures lending volume and profit goals are met
Responsible for the integrity and performance of all Consumer Lending Rules and Decisioning
Responsible for building and maintaining working relationships with line of business management and key associates within the risk management organization
Conduct risk-based reviews covering consumer line(s) of business
Identify credit process weaknesses in the Consumer Loan department
Identify emerging trends and issues that will impact the day-to-day operation of the department
Identify gaps in credit policy and make recommendations on how to close these gaps
Working with regulators and internal and external auditors to provide assurance that Credit Review processes are sound
Build and maintain high trust relationships with senior credit risk management, senior lending associates, and regulators
Manage and monitor the consumer underwriters and admins to ensure the daily workloads are completed in a timely and efficient manner
Acting as an approachable advisor to business partners by developing continuous and effective communication channels for all stakeholders
Partner with the Director, Consumer Loans on all department and enterprise projects that impact the department
Manage the Smart Decisioning Platform Business Configuration, Settings and Change Process
Performs other duties as needed upon request by immediate supervisor

Required

Bachelor's degree required or a minimum of eight years directly related experience in Consumer credit underwriting required
Minimum six years progressive credit underwriting experience required
Minimum three years leader/supervisory experience required
Proficient in DNA, credit report analysis, originating loans required
Microsoft Applications including, but not limited to, Excel, Word and Power Point
