Senior Process Engineer - Fiber Handling Engineer

The Senior Process Engineer will support the Huntsville site by improving processes for producing silicon carbide-based tow and increasing machine effectiveness through various engineering projects.

Responsibilities

Serve as site subject matter expert in understanding how SiC based tow interacts with mechanical systems for the transport of tow
Utilize fundamentals related to how characteristics of the tow impact the ability to effectively move tow without filament failure. In addition, the candidate is expected to be the site expert in the mechanical systems for transporting the tow
Utilize Six Sigma related tools to drive effective problem solving related to failures associated with the movement of tow
Take a lead role in any efforts to redesign systems associated with the movement of SiC tow
Support manufacturing teams as they root cause failures/ issues associated with the movement of tow and the behavior of tow in tow transport processes
Mentor engineers and technicians in understanding critical parameters/ characteristics that impact successful transport of SiC tow
Support Maintenance and Reliability organizations in setting up appropriate PM’s around tow transport systems and/or troubleshooting transport systems

Required

Minimum B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences, or Ceramic Engineering
Minimum of 10 years of experience in fiber related industry such as carbon fiber

Ability to apply strong fundamentals in fiber processing to practical problems
Data driven- relies heavily on data to drive decisions
Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to explain complex issues to a wide array of audiences
Ability to prioritize 'the many' problems/ opportunities down to the 'vital few' and generate action plans to address
