Associate Microbiologist
Smithers is seeking an Associate Microbiologist for their Cannabis Testing Services division. The role involves conducting microbiological analyses of cannabis products in compliance with state regulations and coordinating with the Laboratory Manager for sample analysis.

Responsibilities
Conduct sample analysis in accordance with validated methods and SOPs (qPCR, Petrifilm, bacterial and fungal culture methods, microscopy)
Ensure timely reporting of results to meet deadlines
Ensure results meet all quality requirements
Record and organize data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
Maintenance and upkeep of instrumentation
Additional duties as assigned, including cross-training to conduct chemical analyses
Qualification
Required
B.S. degree in Microbiology or related field is desirable
Conduct sample analysis in accordance with validated methods and SOPs (qPCR, Petrifilm, bacterial and fungal culture methods, microscopy)

Ensure results meet all quality requirements

Proficient technical writing skills in microbiology [written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression]
Ability to integrate observations (visual and written, discrimination) into evaluation process
College math [mathematical reasoning, memorizing]
Ability to work at a fast pace without compromising accuracy or completeness, prioritize work assignments and handle stress [high productivity]
Must be able to comprehend the potential hazards of the chemicals in use and adhere to the proper safety techniques as dictated by the Safety Manual and/or Management
Must be able to wear gloves, lab coat, eye protection, sleeves, hearing protection, pesticide suit, plastic booties, dust masks, a respirator, and a face mask
Must be able to understand and follow laboratory safety standards
Preferred
Master's degree in Microbiology or related field preferred, with 6 months - 3 years of relevant laboratory experience
Proficiency in documentation and procedures required by ISO 17025 strongly preferred
Previous experience in a cannabis testing, commercial, or high through-put lab is a plus
Experience with spore trap analysis is a plus
