Pulse Power Senior Scientist

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. They are seeking a Senior Scientist to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment, focusing on the design and fielding of Pulse Power systems for high-stakes weapons physics experiments.

Responsibilities

Responsible for managing pulse power X-Ray sources, oscilloscopes, function generators, delay generators, etc
Responsible for maintaining the performance of pulsed power X-ray sources
Provides support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (i.e., classified systems/networks, diagnostics, and x-rays)
Works with peers and other disciplines to coordinate project execution compliance
Works with Scientists, Engineers and Technicians in the development and fielding of x-ray imaging, x-ray dosimetry, electrical diagnostics, and data acquisition systems
Duties may include Team Supervisor, Person in Charge (PIC), and Radiation Generating Device Custodian (RGD)
Assists in researching, extracting, analyzing and compiling technical data
Assists in the preparation of reports, graphs, proposals, studies and correspondence
Assists in preliminary engineering analysis, conceptual design and engineering calculations
Assists in and reviews project design and technical documents
Executes work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with company policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's in calculus-based technical (STEM) field plus at least 5 years relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized
Proficiency in Pulse Power systems is required
Ability to work underground required
Ability to function in a team environment, as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations including Scientists, Engineers, Technicians, and Designers
Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks
Ability to work under minimal supervision on a dynamic multidisciplinary project with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule
Must have good work ethic, be motivated to succeed, and be a self-starter
Occasional travel required
Must possess a valid driver's license
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required
MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing
Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance
Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age

Preferred

Experience with radiographic and optical imaging systems is desired
Experience with data analysis or engineering software such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, or Creo is desired
Working knowledge of office software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
