Environmental Engineer I/II/III/Sr - ASL

Ahtna, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Engineer for various levels of expertise to assist in contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation. The role involves both fieldwork and office tasks, including sampling environmental media, overseeing project specifications, and preparing reports.

Responsibilities

Conducting contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and in accordance with work plans
Travel in aircraft (jets, small planes, and helicopters), motor vehicles, ATVs, and/or watercraft to perform fieldwork, site visits, or meetings
Field screening and sampling for contaminants and environmental parameters in a variety of media in accordance with standard operating procedures, guidance, and regulations
Design, install, and operate remediation and treatment systems such as air sparge systems, soil vapor extraction systems, and water treatment systems
Documentation of field operations, including personnel onsite, equipment on site, weather, environmental data, and operational data using photography, neat and legible handwritten fieldnotes and forms, and tablets. Communicate with project managers using phones, email, and daily reports
Examining and inspecting work progress, equipment, and job sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are met
Schedule and oversee subcontractors
Adhering to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project managers
Assist or lead the preparation of proposals, planning documents, and reports
Performing other duties as assigned by management
Project assistance to program and project managers; adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks
Execute assigned tasks in accordance with work plans and direction from higher-level staff
Acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise
Engage program and project managers for task assignments
Communicate work schedules to program and project managers
Provide client assistance to program and project managers; adhere to scope, schedule, and budget on projects
Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise
Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
Technical project execution and document preparation, peer review of project documents
Assist with task orders and project proposals
Technical mentoring
Manage smaller projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, with a preference for civil, environmental, chemical, or geotechnical
Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicle
US Citizen
Proficient in computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access
Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing
Zero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience
Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience
Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience
Eight (8) or more years of relevant professional working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree, such as an MS, may be substituted for work experience
Professional Engineer Registration

Preferred

Proficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programs
ADEC qualified environmental professional
Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification
CPR/1st Aid/AED Certified
Engineer-in-Training certification
Experience working on projects with Federal clients
Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
