Responsibilities

Apply the principles and theories of engineering, mathematics, and science to solve technical problems in support of engineering projects and research
Plan and execute complex assignments requiring initiative, sound judgment, and technical expertise
Prepare specifications and evaluations, conduct technical research, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors
Lead or mentor staff, support project controls and estimates, and ensure adherence to established engineering policies and Laboratory standards

Required

Expert knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, CAD modeling, and design
Expert knowledge of complex mathematical formulas and computations
Expert knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods
Expert knowledge of engineering principles and technical responsibilities within the designated discipline
Expert knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides
Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the discipline
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation for Engineering Technologist 3
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation for Engineering Technologist 4

Preferred

Experience developing innovative engineering solutions or tools that improve efficiency or performance
Demonstrated success in mentoring or training junior staff
Proficiency with emerging analytical, modeling, or simulation software beyond standard CAD and industrial control tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination across disciplines and with external partners
Experience in research-based engineering environments or national laboratory settings
Knowledge of advanced DOE/NNSA engineering directives, design codes, and compliance frameworks
Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement solutions that enhance safety, quality, or efficiency
