Responsibilities

Independently processes all paperwork necessary to process members for separation, discharge, retirement, and release from active duty
Conducts records review with members. Explains completed documents to member and ensures that forms effecting separation are signed
Serves as the primary source of information for individuals, commanders, and other personnel on and off base regarding separation and retirement policies, procedures, and requirements
Updates, inquires, and processes actions through Personnel Data System. Responsible for input of data pertaining to the separation and retirement program, including Defense Joint Military Pay System (DJMS) to include separation updates
Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc., pertaining to the military separation and retirement program

U.S. Citizenship Required
Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute typing speed
All federal employees are required to have direct deposit
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems
Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university
A combination of specialized experience and education as described above
Knowledge of a standardized body of military personnel regulations and procedures relating to military separations and retirements of the format, content, and uses of the military personnel record and the procedures and requirements regarding its maintenance
Knowledge of military organizational structure, protocol, and similar matters
Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures
Knowledge of the military personnel automated system and various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs
Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationships
