Equipment Engineer, Cybercab, Closures & Plastics
Tesla is a leading electric vehicle and clean energy company, and they are seeking an Equipment Engineer to oversee equipment-related activities in the shop. The role involves providing input on equipment selection, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving process improvements to ensure production lines run safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
Provide input on equipment selection for closures lines, focusing on serviceability, reliability, and process capability
Oversee all equipment-related activities in the shop, supporting quality, equipment, OEE, and MTTR-related issues; work hands-on with equipment such as plasma systems, robotape, 2K adhesive, plastic bonding, trimming, ultrasonic welding, and clinching
Participate in breakdown support and maintenance; track and resolve quality issues in a timely manner; participate in supplier and equipment buyoffs such as 200 to 290 buyoffs
Collaborate with design, product excellence, production operations, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, maintenance, and other cross-functional teams to ensure production lines run safely, efficiently, and produce high-quality parts
Serve as owner/subject matter expert to drive equipment-related process improvements, including detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Create training materials, maintenance routines, service bulletins, and related documentation for cradle-to-grave equipment lifecycle management
Identify critical spare parts and ensure sufficient coverage to prevent extended downtime
Develop and manage FMEA risk assessments to prioritize equipment improvement projects and ensure effective repair strategies
Use root cause analysis and first principles thinking to identify weak areas of production systems and implement effective countermeasures
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent experience
Hands-on experience with equipment such as adhesive systems and part heating systems including plasma and IR heating; strong understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, robotics, and PLC systems
Proficiency in understanding quality requirements
Proficiency in creating detailed schematics in CAD (AutoCAD/CATIA preferred)
Experience managing a group working on process optimization, safety validations and improvements, equipment upgrades, and new installations
Preferred
Experience programming Cartesian and articulated robots (Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman, Epson) is highly desired
Experience with vision systems (Cohirix, Keyence, Fanuc)
Experience with ultrasonic welding
