Senior Relationship Manager – Special Assets

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Senior Relationship Manager – Special Assets to join our team. This role involves developing and implementing strategies for loans and assets assigned to the Special Assets Group, working with customers to mitigate risk and maximize recovery for the bank.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate track record as a subject matter expert in working out of one or more industries or product lines
Actively promotes the bank’s brand through involvement in trade, civic and/or other professional organizations
Provide guidance and training to less-experienced Special Assets Relationship Managers and support personnel
Lead loan workout strategy in terms of the bank’s mission and vision Statements
Develop sophisticated workout objectives and strategies and implement through effective negotiations with borrowers and legal counsel which align with the bank’s performance objectives with minimal guidance from management
Initiate and supervise all necessary legal action, marketing activity, and collateral preservation of assigned special assets
Analyze borrower financial information and apply analysis in support of risk rating recommendations to bank management
Execute the appropriate initiatives to maximize the recovery of charged-off loans
Prepare and present problem loan reports to senior management and relationship managers
Analyze and recommend specific reserves and loss calculations for designated special assets in conformity with the bank’s policies and procedures
Provide guidance to lenders, as required, regarding management of special assets
Review complex legal documents and public record filings to determine the enforceability and lien position of the bank’s security interests
Analyze and apply progressively sophisticated commercial credit metrics in assessing credit quality
Exercise superior organization and time management practices. Can simultaneously and successfully manage multiple priorities within established deadlines
Demonstrate an ability to execute well-seasoned and balanced decision-making, focused on achieving the highest and best possible outcome relative to the bank’s objectives while weighing the applicable risks
Possess an ability to successfully manage a substantial loan portfolio in terms of size and complexity
Possess a temperament that promotes conflict resolution with external and internal customers alike
Possess a high degree of attention to detail. Proactively identify and correct errors and/or omissions to both internal and external documents to ensure a highly detailed work product
Possess excellent written and verbal skills frequently required to convey abstract business concepts with a high degree of specificity

Required

Bachelor's degree in business, management, or related field
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Special Assets, Commercial Lending or a related field
Demonstrate track record as a subject matter expert in working out of one or more industries or product lines

Preferred

Doctorate in Jurisprudence or master's degree in business administration
Experience in Commercial Credit Analysis
Experience in Special Assets Lending
