Control Systems Engineer
M.G. Newell Corporation is a century-old company providing sanitary process components and integrated process systems primarily in the food, beverage, and life science industries. The Control Systems Engineer will design, implement, and start up control systems for diverse projects while building customer relationships and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
Develop control system designs based on project specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements
Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation to implement control logic, ensuring seamless integration and optimal system performance
Visit the customer's site to assess existing infrastructure, understand project requirements, and devise an optimal control system design for accurate quoting and successful project implementation
Prepare accurate project quotes, considering materials, labor, and other relevant factors to meet client expectations and company profitability
Order necessary materials and components, coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery for project timelines
Lead or assist in equipment startup and commissioning, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring systems operate as designed
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design specifications, programming code, electrical drawings, and startup reports
Possess knowledge of instrumentation for flow, temperature, pressure, and level in the context of fluid process controls
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Project Management, and Field Service, to achieve project objectives
Engage with clients to understand project requirements, provide technical support, and address inquiries during project execution. Promote M.G. Newell products and services whenever possible. Provide ongoing support to clients, troubleshoot issues, and address problems in a timely and effective manner
Stay updated on industry advancements, integrate best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Automation department and company
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of fluid process controls, particularly in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries, is highly desired
Extensive experience in PLC and HMI programming, instrumentation, and electrical systems (Allen-Bradley required, Ignition and Siemens a plus)
Experience with SCADA systems (FactoryTalk, Ignition, iFix, etc.) highly desirable
ISA88 batch programming experience is highly desirable
Familiarity with process designs of CIP, HTST, heat exchangers, pumps, and valves
Basic understanding of fluid properties, including the interrelationship of flow, pressure, temperature, viscosity, etc
Bachelor's degree required (Engineering discipline preferred)
Willing to travel 35% +/- of the time
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in developing control system designs and documentation
Experience in equipment startup and commissioning
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
High energy level, strong work ethic, and leadership by example
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
