First National Bank of Bastrop is offering a Community Banking Intern Program designed for college students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the core functions of a community bank. Interns will learn about retail banking, lending, credit analysis, finance and accounting, risk management, fraud prevention, and wealth management while participating in professional development activities and a capstone project.

Responsibilities

Learn the fundamentals of customer service, account management, deposits, and daily branch operations

Explore the lending process from application to closing

Develop analytical skills by reviewing financial statements and credit underwriting presentations

Assist in financial reporting, budgeting, and other projects

Learn how banks identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to operations, compliance, marketing, and other factors

Gain insight into the controls and systems used to protect customers and the Bank from fraud, cybersecurity threats, and other financial crimes

Learn how professional financial planners serve customers to meet a variety of long-term financial goals and needs

Participate in workshops, social networking events, governmental and municipal council meetings, field trips, financial literacy, and community outreach activities

Implement a weekly challenge project on the subject of mergers and acquisitions

The ideal program candidate is a motivated, relationship driven individual who is service and people oriented and pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field

Demonstrated commitment and interest in serving one's community

Strong finance and accounting skills

Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities or internship/work experience

Strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills

Basic proficiency using Microsoft Office applications to include Word and Excel, as well as other database application systems

Identified as a Junior, Senior, or recent graduate by credit hours

Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline
