Facilities Architecture Manager

Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking a Facilities Architecture Manager to provide architectural oversight and coordination for capitally funded construction projects. The role involves liaising between Station Operations and MTA Construction & Development, ensuring project designs meet operational needs while maintaining customer experience and safety.

Responsibilities

This position provides architectural oversight and coordination of NYCT capitally funded and facility capital construction projects, serving as the primary liaison between Station Operations and MTA Construction & Development (C&D). The Architectural Manager ensures that project design and construction activities protect station operations, employee facilities, and the customer experience while conforming to NYCT Construction Standards and Specifications
Design Review and Documentation Reporting
Review and approve the work of staff architects during both the design comment phase and the construction phase of capitally funded projects, and assist with design solutions when addressing issues that may cause project delays or when proposed designs do not meet or impede operational needs
Evaluate architectural submissions, including PRDC sections, baseline drawings, design drawings, phasing plans, barricade plans, temporary layouts, signage, and station access plans, to ensure accuracy, compliance, ADA accessibility, customer safety, and minimal service disruption
Coordinate with Station Operations and Maintenance divisions to communicate access restrictions, temporary closures, and restoration needs identified during the design review process
Advise on architectural design solutions that maintain the functionality of employee and customer areas during construction activities
Review architectural comments prepared by staff for completeness, consistency, and technical accuracy prior to submission back to C&D, ensuring all feedback is properly tracked and documented within the designated project management software
Verify that all comments and required revisions have been addressed by C&D before FSP provides final sign-off on design submissions or construction documents
Liaison and Coordination
Represent the Department of Subways (Station Operations) throughout all phases of capitally funded projects managed by C&D
Coordinate with internal stakeholders within the Department of Subways and other MTA agencies to evaluate design impacts and participate in the development of mitigation strategies to avoid project delays
Communicate project design requirements and operational constraints to C&D to ensure construction activities align with Subway operational needs and standards
Attend design and construction coordination meetings to support staff and help resolve conflicts that may affect station operations or customer experience
Project Oversight
Provide managerial oversight of multiple capitally funded projects to ensure consistent and timely completion of FSP deliverables, including design reviews, coordination comments, and operational analyses
Monitor staff workload and project assignments to maintain balanced coverage across all active projects and ensure deadlines align with C&D schedules
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of FSP submissions by reviewing staff outputs for quality, consistency, and adherence to NYCT Construction Standards and departmental procedures
Track project milestones and coordination progress, identifying issues that require escalation or interdepartmental resolution
Collaborate with C&D management to address recurring coordination challenges and improve design review and communication processes between agencies
Leadership and Staff Development
Supervise and guide a team of architects and technical staff responsible for project review, coordination, and documentation
Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development to strengthen staff technical capabilities
Establish and enforce consistent standards for documentation, design review quality, and interdepartmental communication
Oversee staff use of digital reporting and bulletin tracking tools to ensure effective coordination and accountability across projects

Required

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in Architecture/Engineering
Six (6) years of related experience and two (2) years must have been in a managerial/supervisory/administrative capacity; or a satisfactory equivalent of education and experience

Preferred

NYS RA License preferred, not required
Experience working with public sector agencies or large-scale transportation systems
Familiarity with unionized labor environments
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Proficient in CAD
Cloud Based Filing Systems
