Field Inspector I – Fire Protection

Responsibilities

Conduct daily inspections of fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, and alarm systems to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and approved submittals
Verify that materials and equipment (valves, fittings, hangers, heads, detectors) comply with UL/FM listings and manufacturer data sheets
Assist in verifying installations against NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, NFPA 25, and NFPA 72 standards
Support testing activities such as hydrostatic testing, flow testing, alarm verification, and pump performance checks under supervision
Record inspection results, prepare checklists, and maintain daily inspection reports and photographic documentation
Track field deficiencies and assist in preparing punch lists and follow-up inspections
Ensure that as-built conditions match approved shop drawings and design intent
Report non-conformances to QA/QC for review and assist with corrective verification
Maintain coordination with Construction, Safety, and Commissioning teams to promote code compliance and safe testing practices
Participate in toolbox talks and uphold site fire safety protocols

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical diploma
0–3 years of experience in fire protection inspection, construction, or MEP QA/QC
Familiarity with NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25, and 72, as well as related local fire code requirements
Understanding of basic fire suppression and detection system components
Proficiency in MS Office
Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and willingness to learn in a technical field environment
Physically fit for field inspections, including working at height and in active construction zones

Preferred

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification
Familiarity with NFPA 70 (electrical aspects of fire alarm systems) and NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code)
Experience assisting in flow, alarm, or functional performance testing of fire protection systems
Exposure to commissioning and integrated testing (ITC) procedures
