Laboratory Engineer II

Responsibilities
Perform simulations using a parallelized nonlinear propagation code that was recently developed at the UR LLE (SUPPER code)
Modify the existing SUPPER code to include second order nonlinear optics of crystals, additional vector components, and arbitrary spatial distributions
Perform computations to optimize various nonlinear optical elements include optical parametric amplifiers and nonlinear pulse compression in bulk media
Assist with the collection and analysis of experimental data including the development and management of DAQ systems when appropriate
Development and alignment of free-space optical systems and laser diagnostics
Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of short pulse master-oscillator power amplifier systems and other laboratory hardware
Prepare reports/presentations for internal use
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent job training
2 years of related laboratory or computational experience
General knowledge of physics, optics, lasers, and nonlinear optics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
Knowledge and experience in nonlinear optics simulations based on a nonlinear propagation equation
Knowledge and experience in mid-IR solid state laser systems
Knowledge and experience in mid-IR nonlinear optics
Knowledge and experience in spatiotemporal structuring of laser light
Knowledge and experience in laser-plasma interactions
