Practice Technology Strategist

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is dedicated to advancing the specialty of family medicine and improving health care for Americans. The Practice Technology Strategist will provide expertise on practice technologies and data, focusing on enhancing practice operations and supporting family physicians in delivering quality care.

Responsibilities

Provides subject matter expertise on the use of practice technologies and data in a broad range of practice settings in which family physicians work
Serves as a subject matter expert on the ways technology supports successful and efficient practice operations to reduce burden and improve well-being including clinical data interoperability, payer data exchange and reporting, telehealth, patient data privacy and security, payment, population health analytics
Identifies and monitors emerging technologies that support the delivery of holistic and equitable person-centered care by family physicians in a wide range of practice settings
Supports the development, launch and ongoing activities of the AAFP’s new strategic AI initiative, the Primary Care Innovation Network (PCIN)
Leads collaborative efforts within the Practice Advancement division to identify and support development of member education and/or practice resources related to SME domains
Leads administrative burden reduction and digital health priorities and participates in cross-divisional collaborative efforts, such as educational planning and advocacy collaboration
Leads and/or contributes to organizational strategy and framework development to maximize the impact of AAFP advocacy in areas of expertise
Contributes to efforts to better articulate the value of AAFP’s advocacy in areas of expertise
Responds to inquiries from members and chapters on issues relating to health data, health IT policy, quality measurement data, practice-based technology capabilities and adoption
Supports the Commission on Quality and Practice by reviewing, drafting and revising policies and providing staff recommendations on topics related to SME domains
Serves as staff liaison to the member interest groups on Telehealth and Technology Empowered Clinical Optimization

Required

Bachelor's degree or through equivalent work experience with a minimum of six years of relevant work experience
Understanding of how the applied use of these technologies can optimize practice operations, reduce administrative burdens, improve physician/team well-being as well as patient outcomes and experience is essential
Ability to assess areas of impact and opportunity across the constantly evolving healthcare data and technology ecosystem is essential
Working understanding of public and private policies and practices in domains such as interoperability and information exchange, quality/performance measurement, patient consent and data privacy is required
Ability to synthesize, summarize, and prioritize the essential information necessary for the AAFP to support its members in the use of practice-based technologies
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement member-facing and/or key stakeholder initiatives
Ability to distill complex information into terms understandable and relevant to family physicians and others in the organization
Strong organizational skills that can be applied to individual and team/project work; ability to meet multiple deadlines and lead teams with internal and external individuals; and the ability to self-identify work to be done and perform tasks independently
Strong presence and presentation skills; strong written and oral communication skills; strategic and analytical expertise; policy analysis

Preferred

Master's degree in a discipline directly related to the position
