Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist, Health, and Safety Specialist
Northstar Aerospace is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist to provide operational support for their Chicago facility. The role involves managing compliance activities, implementing safety programs, conducting accident investigations, and ensuring adherence to EHS regulations.

Responsibilities
Direct the implementation of occupational safety, health, and environmental programs with a high level of expertise. Standards include Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, NFPA 70E/Electrical safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene and Machine Guarding, etc
Support air, waste, and water compliance for the site
Support reporting and licensing/permitting efforts to ensure regulatory compliance including RCRA, EPCRA, air, and stormwater
Prepare and submit required documentation and reports, including RCRA Permit, EPCRA (Tier II and TRI), and other EPA regulations
Perform job safety analyses (JSAs) and evaluate effectiveness of defenses to mitigate employee injury
Develop and deliver EHS training programs to a variety of audiences (managers and trades personnel) and manage documentation accordingly
Lead investigations, develop true root cause, implement corrective actions, and track actions to closure for all EHS-related events
Facilitate safety coordinator meetings, ensuring they are effective and focused on addressing safety concerns
Initiate actions to prevent accidents from both conditions and acts/behaviors in partnership with EHS Leader
Investigate EHS related accidents and near-misses, implement corrective actions, and track corrective actions to closure
Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards
Encourage and promote the use of safe work rules, equipment, materials, and supplies
Participate in and lead emergency responses and address employee concern
Escort all city, state and federal inspectors/auditors throughout the site when they appear for scheduled or unscheduled visits
Ensure personal fire protection equipment is inspected within scheduled time table and that the equipment is operable
Tracking of all chemicals used and stored on site
Reduce Hazardous Waste costs
Inspire the employees to work in a clean, safe, and environmentally friendly atmosphere
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety roles)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety roles
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Professionalism: approaches others in a tactful and respectful manner; calm under pressure
Adaptability: adapts to changes in priorities and unexpected events
Attendance/Punctuality: consistently at work per schedule and on time
Dependability: follows instructions, meets commitments
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment
Preferred
Safety certifications such as OSHA 501, OSHA-30, OSHA 511, EHS Specialist, CSP, ASP, etc
Experience in an industrial 24-hour setting
