University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a patient-centered Lab Tech II to work in their Bettendorf Clinic. This role involves performing phlebotomy, routine laboratory testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

Performs phlebotomy
Performs routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens
Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability
Records results of laboratory testing and reports results in the Laboratory Information System and to clinicians in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures
Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments
Performs records and reviews daily quality control as required for assigned testing/instrumentation
Cleans and maintains a medium-sized laboratory area and equipment therein, makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment
Maintains supplies and equipment in medium sized laboratory area and orders additional supplies
Distributes incoming freight, laboratory supplies, environmental samples or biological specimens, and packs outgoing sample or specimen containers
Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant when complex equipment or technical issues arise. Informs the Laboratory Technical Consultant of significant laboratory variances
Responds to, or may direct response to, telephone inquiries regarding laboratory specimens. Investigates and resolves laboratory questions with minimum guidance

Required

Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR
Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR
Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years
Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours

Preferred

Strong phlebotomy skills
Previous experience with lab audits
Previous experience handling and processing lab specimens
Previous EPIC and Beaker experience
Previous walk-in clinic experience
Assist and coordinate proficiency testing for moderate complexity instruments
Previous experience in performing routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids, which may include but not limited to: Piccolo, CMP's, CBS's, etc
Performs routine moderate complexity testing including but not limited to urinalyses, rapid antigen kit tests, and various pot of care tests. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens
Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is highly desirable
Approaches every interaction with patients and coworkers with a positive, professional demeanor and valuing respect, collaboration, and excellence in the position
