Associate Counsel, Trademarks

The Associate Counsel will work closely with senior trademark counsel to provide legal advice on trademark and copyright law, perform global trademark clearance, and assist in managing trademark disputes.

Responsibilities
Work closely with senior trademark counsel to provide legal advice on all aspects of trademark and copyright law
Perform global trademark clearance: review preliminary searches, analyze full search reports and draft availability opinions
Provide support on trademark registration including strategizing on trademark filings, responding to office actions, supporting renewals and collaborating with outside counsel
Assist senior attorneys on management of global trademark disputes including reviewing watch notices, preparing cease and desist letters, reviewing opposition documents, negotiating settlements, and managing outside counsel handling conflict and litigation matters
Work with senior attorneys on negotiation and drafting of license, co-existence and settlement agreements
Support M&A activity including trademark due diligence in connection with potential acquisitions, divestitures, minority investments, and post-closing integration of newly acquired trademark portfolios
Help the team develop and deliver training and educational materials on company policies and procedures and proper trademark use
Assist with management of our domain name portfolios and domain name disputes
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited law school
Licensed to practice in NY
5-7 years of experience; in-house experience with a consumer products company preferred
Strong knowledge of US and international trademark and unfair competition laws with background in trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement
Ability to form collaborative relationships with other legal team colleagues and business leaders in a complex, geographically dispersed organization
Outstanding research, writing, analytical and advocacy skills; must be able to simply explain legal concepts to non-legal professionals
Highly motivated, efficient, and organized; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
