Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care
Provides direct patient care
Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills
Documents and maintains data on patient’s record
Maintains a safe environment
Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education
Provides for life support
Acts as a patient advocate
Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team
Participates in performance improvement
Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion
Performs related work as required
Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties
Maintains patient confidentiality
Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations
Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner
Provides basic nursing care under the directions of the Registered Nurse
Qualification
Required
Vocational/Technical degree in practical nursing required
La State Board Practical Nursing license required
CPR required
Preferred
ACLS and PALS preferred
One year of LPN experience preferred
Current knowledge of clinical practice
Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment
Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care
