As a Seed Orchard Technician, you will be responsible for the daily care and operation of seed orchards, contributing to the production of high-quality southern pine seed and supporting tree improvement programs.
Manufacturing
Responsibilities
Assist with cone harvesting and spring breeding operations (CMP)
Assist with Progeny test establishment, maintenance, and measurement
Maintain orchard grounds: mowing, spraying, fertilizing, and pest control
Operate and repair orchard equipment and infrastructure
Lead and audit contract labor crews
Provide emergency call-out services when needed
Support nursery operations during sowing and harvesting
Ensure safety and cleanliness across all work areas
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED (Associates in Forestry, Agriculture, or Horticulture preferred)
1-2 years of experience in farming, construction, welding, or equipment maintenance
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivation, attention to detail, and a passion for learning
Preferred
Background in forestry, agriculture, or farming
Welding and equipment repair
Forklift and tractor operation
Spanish language proficiency
