The Mechanical Engineer IV role focuses on supporting the development and documentation of mechanical systems while leading technical research and resolving product/process issues throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Leading research of technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer
Assessing and resolving product/process issues through the product lifecycle
Working with and directing cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformances
Experience conducts detailed design work, assembly layout and the creation of drawings & solid models in CATIA and/or providing analysis of interim and final engineering solutions
Oversees documentation of hardware related issues
Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system, component, and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation
Perform and document analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
Supports operations with ongoing technical support of products in production
Designs and reviews layouts of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved
Reviews completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Writes technical reports and supports conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design reviews to ensure designs meet internal and customer requirements
Supports proposal preparation and new business development efforts
Leads and directs activities to validate and verify mechanical and system requirements to ensure designs meet internal and customer requirements
Trains, coaches, and mentors’ others
Qualification
Required
Bachelor or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 12 years experience in relevant design/analysis/development environment, preferably for military or commercial aviation
Knowledge of manufacturing of mechanical components and assemblies with emphasis in complex electromechanical systems, or large structures
Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics)
Knowledge of the interaction between departments/ disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business)
Experience of manufacturing, methods, fabrication processes (e.g., forming, stamping, machining, heat treatment, machines/machine tools, cutting tools and fluids, N/C programming, instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems) for aerospace requirements
Ability to select the best method of producing parts, tools or assemblies
Experience in design concepts and techniques (e.g., concurrent engineering, Design for Manufacture/Assembly [DFM/DFA])
Must be able to perform structural analysis by hand calculations and finite element methods
Experience of aerospace materials properties and selection as well as processing including Heat Treat and Coatings for aerospace requirements
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in creation of design concepts using CAD tools
CAD experience in CATIA (preferred) and PDM Smart Team is a plus
Proficient in creating detail drawings, assembly drawings, interface drawings and source control drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100-LATEST standard
Proficient in Geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) using ASME Y14.5-LATEST standard and stack-up analysis
Application of advanced principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in solving mechanical engineering problems
Must be able to perform basic measurement and inspection processes
Proficient of Military standards and compliance rules and regulations mandated under the following quality and governmental standards: AS9100 & ITAR
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be fluent in written and spoken English
Must be able to write engineering reports, typically to document analysis and test results
Proficient with Microsoft Office products is essential
Proof of Education is required
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
Preferred
Knowledge of airborne weapon systems and /or weapon carriage equipment is strongly desirable
CAD experience in CATIA (preferred) and PDM Smart Team is a plus
3D printing in PLA, composite and/or metal experience is a plus
Evidence of accomplishment in self-documentation of work product through technical reports, test reports etc. will be considered as a plus
