Emissions Control Systems Technician

Responsibilities
Performs duties in a safe manner following all company safety procedures
Identifies, report and/or correct unsafe work environments
Independently work on assignments that are moderately complex in which experience and knowledge is required to calibrate instruments and resolve problems and follow quality assurance and quality control procedures for the equipment
Technicians must be familiar with all equipment in plant. A sampling of these devices includes transmitters, switches, analyzers, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, pyrometer systems, and others. Within each category are a variety of pneumatic and electronic devices
Technicians are also responsible for troubleshooting and working with Engineering Support to maintain distributed control systems. This is a most rapidly changing technical area and requires a high level of technical training
Prepare and provide technical reports and enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation and information for equipment
Works to logic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings and sketches, and other written instructions
Completes preventive, corrective maintenance and scheduled maintenance; and improves operation of systems, instruments, controls, and metering and electrical equipment installed at facility
Trouble shoots and analyzes instrument, control, and metering problems and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies

Maintains records of readings and test results for all assigned equipment. Maintains records and files of readings and data taken during preventive maintenance
Manages the COMS operations and maintenance activities
Acknowledges COMS episodes that deal with maintenance or QA activities
Ensures that a supply of certified span gas is always available
Maintains the calibration gas bottle certificates of analysis
Enters data into COMS Logbook when necessary
Contacts the vendor/contractor for service assistance
Conducts the QC Activities (e.g., calibration checks, calibrations, corrective actions, routine preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance as needed)
Coordinates and schedules Annual primary or alternative zero alignment checks
Supports the activities of personnel involved with the CEM systems
Maintains the COMS Logbook
Conducts a routine visual inspection of the COMS components located in the COMS enclosure
Performs corrective maintenance in response to COMS alarms
Identifies equipment, personnel, and training needs and makes recommendations to the Maintenance Manager
Oversees day-to-day operation of the COMS
Checks daily monitor calibrations and notifies Electrical Maintenance Manager of calibration exceedances and impending maintenance activities
Conduct quarterly cylinder gas audits and linearity checks
Administers the maintenance of the COMS
Maintains COMS spare parts and calibration gas inventories
Ensures that the field operation requirements of this document are carried out in a timely manner
Qualification
Required
Experience with continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) or be able to quickly acquire knowledge of CEMS and our other products
Must have or be able to quickly acquire knowledge of the environmental compliance requirements of 40 CFR Part 75, 40 CFR Part 60, SCAQMD RELCAIM, and various State or Local rules related to CEMS Maintenance and Quality Control and Quality assurance
Two (2) plus years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and servicing industrial electrical instrumentation and controls, as well as basic mechanical skills
Familiar with and able to use various test equipment such as multi meters, flow meters, and electronic test equipment to calibrate and troubleshoot instruments
Experience reading electrical prints and manuals
Experience with microcomputer and related software
Must have or be able to quickly acquire a good working ability with Word, Excel and Outlook
Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with subordinates, peers, managers, customers, and vendors
Thorough knowledge, skill and hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience relating to instrumentation used in modern power stations, refineries, and industrial work locations
Able to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, work aloft, and work in the elements
Willing to work OT, weekends, and off shift as needed to support the operations
Willing to provide off hours phone support
Possess a high degree of initiative and judgment
Promotes positive team environment
Capable of completing work in a timely manner
