Hardware Design Engineer

AMETEK Power Instruments is an innovative leader in electronic instrumentation for the electric utility and process industries. The successful candidate will perform electronics hardware design and development activities in support of new product development and enhancements for Protection and Control products.

Responsibilities

Assists engineering and product management in developing requirement specifications for new products
Maintains and supports legacy hardware and designs and follows proper engineering change documentation
Solves problems as a result of component obsolescence and lead time issues
Creates product design requirements and specifications in a team setting
Designs new product circuits to meet design specifications
Creates prototype hardware (designs and builds hardware to test concepts)
Creates and maintains engineering documents including schematics (ALTIUM), bills of material and engineering change notices
Assists in all engineering functions leading to product release such as board layout, prototype testing, manufacturing issues, final test specifications and system test guidelines
Uses lab tools, including oscilloscopes, spectrum, and protocol analyzers to diagnose problems

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 3 years engineering experience post-graduation
Design experience with high-speed ADC / DACs, FPGAs/ and microprocessors

Preferred

Understanding of signal integrity, noise mitigation, and layout practices
Employs model-based design tools for automated HDL code generation
Experience with VHDL and FPGAs for signal processing, timing closure and/or communication products for power utilities
Knowledge of PCB placement and layout requirements for high speed digital signals
Understanding of PCB design principles for signal and power integrity and minimizing noise coupling
Collaboration and interface definition between hardware and firmware. Ability to debug Firmware
Knowledge of testing and design with respect to agency approvals UL, CE, IEC, IEEE preferred
