Senior PLC Automation Test Systems Engineer
GE Healthcare is seeking a skilled Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to lead automation and robotics initiatives across our global supply chain. This role will drive the strategy and deployment of automation solutions for new product introductions, existing manufacturing lines, and product transfers.
Responsibilities
Work with manufacturing sites to define, develop concepts, design, and implement automation solutions
Partner with key vendors and integrators to deliver advanced automation solutions across multiple manufacturing plants, including conducting proof-of-concept trials and managing deployment into production
Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to capture process requirements, develop Equipment Requirement Specifications (ERS), and follow the automation design process
Identify high-ROI automation opportunities, conduct feasibility studies, and perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to validate concepts and reduce implementation risks
Support Industry 4.0 initiatives by enabling machine connectivity and contributing to digital transformation efforts that drive data-driven decision-making and efficient operations
Research and evaluate emerging technologies, processes, and industry trends to keep GEHC at the forefront of automation innovation
Apply creative solutions using technologies such as collaborative robots, artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIVs), and traditional automation methods to enhance productivity and quality
Proven expertise in Quality Management Systems, with the ability to lead equipment qualification and validation—including document control, acceptance criteria, risk assessments, and supporting documentation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical/Automation, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical degree
3+ years' experience in using, applying, and deploying various automation technologies from concept phase thru final implementation into production
Demonstrated program or project management skills of internal/external integrators
Demonstrated experience owning production processes / growing capability in yield, quality, and capacity
Experience developing technical documents - ability to write / perform FMEA's, Equipment Risk Assessments, ERS's (Equipment Requirements Specifications), Validation Plans
Experience with controls automation design and safety standards; AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent, NFPA 79, RIA15.06, and other relevant industry standards
Experience in Automation Controls programming and other technologies: i.e. PLC's, HMI's, Python, Ethernet IP, OPC UA, machine vision, measurement systems, etc
Willing to travel domestic up to 10% of the time
Preferred
Masters/PHD (or equivalent) in technical concentration/field
6+ years' experience in the design, build, programming, and deployment of automation
Mechanical design experience in automation equipment such as AutoCAD or Solidworks
Substantial industrial experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Six-sigma DMAIC & DFSS certified
Experiences in Process Intensive manufacturing
Solid working knowledge of GEHC QMS procedures for GMP
Experienced developing tools and templates
Experience working with global teams
