Electronic Materials and Devices Engineering Intern

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking Electronic Materials and Devices Engineering Interns to support innovative solutions for national defense challenges. Interns will engage in a variety of research and development projects involving materials synthesis, characterization, and electronic device processing.

Responsibilities

Substrate fabricating, including cutting, dicing, grinding, lapping, and polishing
Materials characterization, including microscopy, spectroscopy, and surface profiling
Electrical characterization
Mechanical and environmental testing
Furnace recipe development, loading, unloading, and profiling
Ceramic processing, including preparing slurries, tape casting, electroding, and sintering
Additive manufacturing / 3D printing, including CAD modelling, preparing slurries/inks, and running printers with a focus on electronics applications

Must be a U.S. citizen to apply
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen
Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies
Students majoring in Materials Science and Engineering (MatSE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), or Chemical Engineering (ChemE) are encouraged to apply
Ability to perform substrate fabricating, including cutting, dicing, grinding, lapping, and polishing
Ability to perform materials characterization, including microscopy, spectroscopy, and surface profiling
Ability to perform electrical characterization
Ability to perform mechanical and environmental testing
Ability to develop furnace recipes, including loading, unloading, and profiling
Ability to perform ceramic processing, including preparing slurries, tape casting, electroding, and sintering
